Unheralded Basel added Bayern Munich to its list of Champions League conquests, beating the four-time European champions 1-0 Wednesday night in the first leg of the second round.
Having beaten Manchester United in the group stage, Basel twice hit the frame of the goal before substitute Valentin Stocker scored in the 86th minute on a shot through goalkeeper Manuel Neuer's legs.
Marseille also scored late for a 1-0 home win, with Andre Ayew connecting on a header in the third minute of injury time against 2010 champion Inter Milan.
The second legs of the total-goals series are March 13.
